For Sami girl’s birthday, I decided to change up my normal front door wreath and do a birthday girl wreath!

To make this wreath, I used a twig wreath base, fabric scrap strips, coordinated ribbon, and a letter S. It was the easiest wreath I’ve made so far and I was able to tie all of the strips while sitting on the couch, watching The Vampire Diaries.{My new obsession with this show will be addressed in a post soon!}
I wrapped the ribbon around the top of the S to attach it to the wreath, as this allows me to take it off with no damage to the wreath! I’m all about re-using things in other projects!
And the best part? Itβs ridiculously easy to make. Even if youβre not a DIY pro (trust me, Iβm more of a βhot glue and hope for the bestβ kind of mom), you can pull this off. Let me walk you through how I created this fabulous, frilly, and festive Birthday Girl Wreath and why I think every mom should make one! Among other fun ideas, be sure to check out my previous post on the Birthday Memory Boardβit pairs perfectly with the Birthday Girl Wreath for a truly special celebration!
What You Need
You donβt need much to make this beauty! Hereβs what I used:
β Foam or wire wreath form β Any size works, but I go for 12-14 inches for a nice, full look.
β Lots of ribbon β The more variety, the better! I picked pink, gold, and white because my daughter loves all things sparkly.
β Hot glue gun & glue sticks β Because what DIY project doesnβt involve hot glue?
β Decorations β I used mini pom-poms, bows, and some sparkly letters to spell out her name.
β Birthday number sign β I cut out a big glittery β5β to highlight the milestone (and to remind me how fast time is flying).
β Zip ties or floral wire β To attach heavier decorations securely.
How I Made the Birthday Girl Wreath (Without Losing My Mind)
Step 1: Cut and Prep the Ribbon
Contents
I started by cutting my ribbons into 12-inch strips. I mixed different widths, textures, and patterns to keep it fun and festive. I also curled a few using scissors for some extra flair.
Step 2: Tie the Ribbons to the Wreath Form
This part is easyβbut slightly time-consuming if youβre a perfectionist (which I tried not to be). I tied each ribbon around the wreath form, making sure they were evenly spaced. I kept fluffing them as I went to create a full, layered look.
Step 3: Add the βBirthday Girlβ Touch
Once the wreath was covered in ribbon, I hot glued a big, glittery βHappy Birthdayβ sign to the center. Then, I added the giant sparkly number to mark the birthday year. If you want to personalize it more, you can spell out your childβs name with wooden letters or stickers.
Step 4: Extra Decorations (Because More is More!)
This is where I let my inner craft-loving mom shine. I attached mini bows, pom-poms, and tiny party hats to make it even cuter. You can even add little clip-on photos of the birthday girl through the years (cue the happy tears!).
Step 5: Hang It Up and Admire Your Work!
I used a command hook to hang the wreath on my front door, so guests saw it before they even walked in. Instant party vibes! I also moved it near the cake table later for photosβit worked as a perfect backdrop.
Ways to Customize the Wreath
The best thing about this project? You can totally make it your own. Here are some fun ways to customize it:
π¨ Change up the colors β Go with a theme! Think pastel unicorn vibes, bold superhero shades, or classic pink and gold.
πΈ Add photos β Clip on a few Polaroids of past birthdays for a sweet, nostalgic touch.
π Make it reusable β Use Velcro or mini clothespins for the numbers so you can swap them out each year.
π Incorporate party elements β Add mini balloons, confetti-filled tulle, or even tiny party horns.
Final Thoughts: Why Iβm Now Obsessed With Birthday Wreaths
Iβll be honestβwhen I first started this project, I wasnβt sure if it would be worth the effort. But after seeing my daughterβs face light up when she saw her special wreath, I knew this was going to be a new family tradition.
Not only is it a simple and fun way to elevate birthday decorations, but it also makes my child feel celebrated in a unique way. And letβs be realβanything that keeps me from buying yet another pack of store-bought decorations is a win in my book.
So if youβre looking for a super cute, easy, and personal way to decorate for your little oneβs big day, trust meβthis is it. Give it a try, and get ready for the βoohsβ and βahhsβ from everyone at the party.
Now, excuse me while I start brainstorming how to make an even bigger and sparklier one for next year. ππ
