Yellow Spring Decor

spring decor 2

IF there’s anything I learned from my mom’s decor style, it was her ability to decorate minimally.  She is a perfect example of not having a ton of things out.  She uses pictures from trips, and a few knick knacks, but she’s so good at keeping her house tidy by only have a few things out on shelves.

For my Spring Decor this year, I decided to “purge” and do minimal decor for the first time.

Rather than have 55 pictures of my girl on the entry table, I purged it down to ONE photo.

ONE.

UN…HEARD…OF

And… I’m now in LOVE with my minimally decorated entry way.

Who wouldda thought?

For my Spring decor, I chose yellow.  I’m kind of obsessed with yellow right now.  Not sure where that came from, but boy oh boy, do I LOVE yellow!

Add in some polka dots, and I’m just a little obsession queen!

Thanks to Balsam Hill, I got a Boxwood Wreath for my spring decor, along with $100 ETSY gift card for spring decor shopping.

HOLY FUN SHOPPING DAY!

When my packages from The Pillow People and Expressions Wall Art arrived, it was an early Mother’s Day!

I ordered a set of 2 pillow slipcovers for my couch from The Pillow People and went BIG and ordered a CUSTOM wood FAMILY RULES sign from Expressions Wall Art.  Both companies were super easy to work with and had my order delivered well before I expected them to arrive!

I HEART handmade!

The perfect accessories to decorate for Spring! I never buy home decor items, because I always feel like I should use what I have on hand to decorate, so this was the perfect MOTHER’S DAY TREAT for myself!

I added to my Spring decor by painting a wooden “welcome” sign to add to my Balsam Hill Boxwood wreath, and painted a mason jar with my YELLOW inspiration and added polka dots.

This welcome sign came from Hobby Lobby.  So many fun chipboard words to choose from!

I love “words” for home decor!

After using the nailpolish bottle-top to make my circles, I used a brush to fill in the polka dots.

  1. Even thought it is trendy in the blog world to make or buy new decor every year, I like to put a lot of the same things out each year. I love the sense of tradition and comfort those pieces bring each year. My mom did that, even though she is a crafter, and I plan on continuing it!

    Cute choices, btw!

  2. My mom always shopped the house, rearranging and finding new homes for things. It’s always nice to change things up a bit even if you don’t get anything new!

  3. My mom taught me how to arrange different items in groups and thrift shop for what you need…and even things you maybe didn’t realize you needed (or wanted!).

  4. My mom and I seem to have opposing taste when it comes to decor. She is quite traditional whereas I like mixing modern and vintage looks, but still keeping it rather minimal.

  5. My mom has a meaning for almost every accessory in her home. Whether it is a vintage piece from her mom, family pictures, or shells from a beach vacation. I have tried to take her lead, and done the same thing. She is a fabulous designer. Thanks for the giveaway.
I heart Balsam Hill Boxwood Wreaths 🙂

  6. One tip I have learned from my mom is that if you like it, make it work. Even if it doesn’t pertain to a certain “style”. And as a side note, I love love love boxwood wreaths but have been too cheap to buy the one I keep slowly cruising by at Target! 🙂

  7. LOVE this – yellow is one of my current favorite colors too. Thanks for the update on where the “welcome” message is from – I’ll have to get me one of those!

  8. My mom best use what you love and means the most to you when decorating, my mom uses lots of family photos and family memorabilia in her home!

  9. My mom was a “saver” and reused the same items year after year. They might be in different places, but it was the same basics.

  10. A decorating tip I have taken from my MOM is to pay attention to scents in my home. To keep wonderful smells through candles and diffusers in my home.

  11. My mom always taught me to use what you have. Reuse, redo, or trade with friends. I love the look of these decor ideas and am so ready to go minimal in our house. Thanks for sharing!

  12. My mom always had such bright and vibrant colors from pillows to candles to tableware. I have the same kind of colors as she did.

  13. That the pictures on the living room wall should be level. Actually – it was making her nutty so she fixed it, but I guess that counts. 😉

  14. My Mom is wonderful in many ways, but decorating is not one of them. So I have to say, I haven’t taken any tips from her. Other advice from her has been very valuable though.

  15. my mom loved having pictures of her family on the walls, and not a lot of clutter. I’ve done the same at my home except i do have some art prints as well.

  16. My mom liked to put family pictures everywhere. She was also not a fan of knick knacks, she liked things to be practical. I definitely feel the same!

  17. The only decorating tip I can think of right off the bat is the use of plants in the house. I like easy to care for houseplants in different rooms.
