Children’s ABC Play Table

ABC Play Table

I’ve wanted a children’s ABC play table for my girl since she first started to walk, so when I finally made the decision to get my girl a “real” table, and looked at the prices of kids tables, I about choked.  Unless you get a flimsy plastic table and chairs, you’re looking at $100+.  This just wasn’t going to happen around here.  So, I began my hunt for a cute square table on Craigslist.

Nothing caught my eye until I was out for a walk and happened upon a neighborhood yard sale and found this awesome table for $6.  With a little bit of creativity and Chevron FolkArt stencils, I knew I could make something of this little guy!

MATERIALS:

Plaid’s Folk Art Chevron Stencil

Stencil Roller

Plaid Acrylic Paint

Washi Tape in place of the blue painters tape I couldn’t find in our house! {don’t judge!}

TUTORIAL:

I taped off the four sides and painted them with chalkboard paint.

Then, I taped off the top edge of the chalkboard strip and got the white center ready for the stenciling!

I used a sponge dauber to apply the paint with the stencil, only dabbing the paint, not back and forth, like a normal paint job!

I let each section dry for about 15-20 minutes, then peeled the stencil off and moved to the next section.

I let it dry completely over night, just to be sure, then I added some Alphabet stickers I already had on hand….and ended up with a $6 Kids ABC Play Table!

Now, to find some chairs to add some chevron to as well!

  1. Wow, Melanie, this is fabulous! And what a garage sale treasure you found. I rarely find a treasure that inexpensive at the garage sales around here. This table is beautiful and such an amazing transformation!

  2. I love how this turned out! I double love that you used washi tape instead of painter’s tape. I, also, could tell you where about 6 rolls of washi tape are but I have no clue where the painter’s tape is.

  3. Love this! I would love it if you joined and contribute your awesome posts at my link party at City of Creative Dreams on Fridays 😀 Hope to see you there at City of Creative Dreams Link Party.
