Screenprinting Fabric

I’ve never really been much of a Halloween/Fall decorator.  I usually put a wood sign on the door and maybe a bowl of candy corn out on the counter.

However, it seems as if Plaid Crafts and Martha Stewart Crafts sending me a humongous box of supplies to craft with, suddenly shoots me full of inspiration and time to craft!

It was time for my couch pillows to get a refashioning, and I’d been on the lookout for the right pillows, so Martha Stewart Crafts and Plaid Crafts came along at the right time!

The box of supplies was so unbelievably FUN!

Here are the supplies I used to screenprint my fabric:

FLOUR SACKS {I picked up a 4 pack for $3.99 at Ross}

Martha Stewart Adhesive Silkscreen Patterns { I used the feather package}

Set of squeegees

Martha Stewart Paints { I used metallic AND satin}

The first thing I did was screenprint one side of each one of the flour sacks.  I started out doing the feathers different colors, but by the third or fourth time swapping out screenprint patterns and colors, and washing brushes, I got lazy and started to do the same color all over!  Other than that…it really only took a few minutes to paint two pieces for each pillow.

When you put the paint on, you want to squeeze out a line of paint along the edge and pull evenly but lightly in one direction.  You’ll start to see the screen print fill in with the paint!

You’ll want to peel the silkscreen off before the paint dries. Just peel it right off!

Let your sheets dry for about an hour or so before moving them.

Next, you’ll need to get out the sewing machine! Place the pieces of fabric with the painted patterns facing each other.  Sew around three of the edges but leave the bottom seam open and do a light slip stitch {* not pictured}  to close it up {thank you, mom, for that little piece of advice!}

Adds just a tad more color into the room {I actually wish I’d only done one color, but this is what they had!}
